Special education is a program based on the individual needs of a student with disabilities. It is designed to assist the student with accessing the curriculum and participating in the life of the school. Special education helps the student with disabilities learn skills and strategies to be successful and receive an appropriate education.
All students have a right to an education, including students with disabilities. School districts are required under federal laws, such as, IDEA Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and ADA Americans with Disabilities Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, to provide students with services, specialized instruction, accommodations, and individualized education program for students with disabilities.
