As a special education advocate, you are a skilled professional who came to the profession to make a difference to those in need. To maintain a high level of competency in your profession requires access to cutting-edge ideas, the most up-to-date information and research, and the highest-quality resources available to special education advocates . Your NAPSEA membership will allow you access to all of these resources, to not only aid you in fulfilling your personal career goals, but to ultimately help you to make a difference for your clients.

You must be knowledgeable in special education laws, public school policy and procedures, and understand disabilities and how they affect a student's learning process.

Small Business

In addition to being an advocate, you are also a small business owner, and as such, you need to have other skills and knowledge in order for your advocacy practice to be successful. Marketing your services, raising awareness of your profile, and establishing your brand will provide you with a steady flow of clients.  What usually happens is a feast and famine effect.  You work diligently  on behalf of your clients and help solve the issues. Then you wait for a new client to call.  You spend some time marketing, then you're busy again.  This ebb and flow is not healthy for your business finances. After all, you must have a steady stream of clients and subsequently income in order to maintain fiscal stability.  NAPSEA understands this side of your advocacy business and works to provide you with information about marketing and keeping the 'business' side of your advocacy practice running smoothly.
